Three useful checks for DAF
Find the right manual
DAF’s Euro 6 driver-manual search asks for the last eight VIN characters. That input rule belongs to the manual service; retain the complete VIN for other checks.
Check chassis and body
Compare the fitted body, axle arrangement and documented weights with the vehicle’s papers. Ask for bodybuilder and conversion records where applicable.
Review commercial use
Request dated maintenance, inspection and available operating-hours records. A decoder result cannot establish current payload or the condition of fitted equipment.
Where to find your DAF VIN
DAF’s driver-manual page shows VIN-location illustrations for its covered trucks. Match the physical number to the registration, then follow the lookup instructions for that truck.

Why does the DAF manual site ask for only eight characters?
That is the official input for its covered Euro 6 manual search. It is not an instruction to shorten the VIN in a registration or vehicle-history enquiry.
Is a DAF specification the same as a history report?
No. A specification describes configuration. Maintenance, mileage, damage and use require separate records matched to the actual truck.
More DAF documentation guidance
Start with the car and its documents
Read the physical vehicle identifier and check it against the original registration, service records and sales documents. Locate it using the correct model-year manual rather than a generic diagram. If a label is missing, damaged or inconsistent, have the identity issue examined before relying on a decoded result.
Find the correct DAF driver manual
DAF’s Euro 6 driver-manual search requests the last eight VIN characters, described as the chassis number. Follow that service’s instructions for the manual search, while keeping the full identifier for registration and history enquiries. Match the truck itself to its paperwork before selecting technical information.
Separate chassis identity from the completed body
Request records for the fitted body, axle configuration, permitted weights and any subsequent alteration. Check inspection documents and service invoices against the truck’s identifier. A basic decode cannot establish current payload, body condition, operating hours or the completeness of its commercial maintenance history.
Limits to keep in mind
- VIN decoding identifies available specification data; accident, mileage, theft and ownership records require separate evidence and depend on the provider and country.
- NHTSA vPIC uses manufacturer submissions for the US regulatory system. International, low-volume and older vehicles may return incomplete results; an empty field is not proof that a vehicle is fraudulent.
- Historical chassis and frame numbers may not fit a modern 17-character VIN form. Preserve the identifier exactly as recorded on original documents.

From VIN details to a buying decision
Match the identifiers and documents, then investigate the countries where the vehicle was used. Read our cross-border guide or start with US records where relevant. Specifications do not establish current condition.
